So I heard this thing on the radio yesterday about holiday rage and how it's becoming a huge problem in the stores. Holiday rage is when people get upset because the person in front of them is picking through their purse for change or maybe because they took the last Wii. Callers then were able to call in and say their opinion. There are two that I really agreed with.
One view: Holiday rage is a great way to show that you're selfish. There is nothing more selfish than being mad at someone who can't find the exact change. Do you really think that it will better your life to be mad about such a stupid thing. You really think that you will get somewhere faster if the person in front of you paid with credit card instead. Notice all the Yous I highlighted? That is selfishness.
Second view: Holiday rage is not a testimony to Gods glory. We are supposed to be gracious, forgiving, and loving people. When we cut in line or shove people out of the way to get the last Wii, that is not being who we are called to be in Christ. What a horrible testimony we are living if we do such a thing. Also, not only are we being a testimony to the people shopping but a witness to the workers that notice these actions. When I worked at Target I loved when people would be patient, I would serve them first because they deserved it.
Holiday rage does not make anyone happy and it does not advance the love the season represents. So lets all remember this as the craziness gets worse and the worldly impulses take over. Take a deep breath when that person in front of you is 3 pennies short and offer those to her. Be a gracious person and make the situation better instead of worse.
Happy hunting for the Wii system!
Happy Holidays
