I really enjoyed reading this book. It's a fast reader and very interestingly laid out.
Every chapter begins with a scene from a movie (these are Becky's daydreams). Each scene is an analogy not only for Becky's life but for how she is feeling in each individual chapter.
This book takes us on a 3 month journey with Becky and her family as they prepare to sell one house and renovate the new house. Becky is a mother of 3, a wife, holds a part-time job with the church, attends Bible Study every week, helps take care of her mother-in-law, tries to rescue everyone from their problems, and does it all with a bad leg, which is a result of a car accident two years earlier. As we travel this journey with Becky we find that she is a harried and out of sorts. She searches for balance and relief from the stress. Her leg becomes her gauge as to how things are going in life; the more it hurts the worse things are getting. She believes many lies about how life will change once they have their dream home just the way they want it. What happens when she confronts those lies, though? Will her marriage fail? Will she take on more hours at work to afford the house? Will she take on more than she can handle? Will she turn to God when she needs Him most? Will she find relief in knowing she can't do it all? All these answers and more are found in this journey.
The question I had to ask myself after this book; "How am I like Becky Miller?". My answer at the present time is skewed due to me being on bed rest but I will remember this question after my life returns to our "new normal"!
I quickly got wrapped up in this book and couldn't put it down. Part of the fun was guessing the movie that each chapter held. A great book for anyone who may be feeling overwhelmed with duties in life.
