Argiope Aurantia

These spiders live on our fence in our front yard. Personally, I'm not a fan. Neither is Seth. I noticed them as we were pulling out for church. Their webs were a shiny silver from the sunlight. It was beautiful, you could see all the intricacies of them. In the afternoon I took a walk to find these wonderful webs and I found them alright...and they had two very ugly spiders guarding them.

On our way back home we found this praying mantis. It flew right in front of us and landed about 10 feet away.

Now I'm off to have nightmares of spiders...YUCK!!

Curious that you refer to the spiders by their scientific name, but the Mantis religiosa by its common one... I think the black and yellow garden spider is amazing! I love opening my front door and seeing her new web every morning. I'm glad she stays outside, but enjoy her beauty. They won't come near you or the kids because they hate people, and they're not poisonous. No worries.
I was lazy and didn't want to look the scientific name up. So what?
