Teach a man to fish...

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime."

This is an old Chinese proverb. We've all heard it said in many places we've been and I'm sure we can apply it to different areas of our lives. Our parents have taught us valuable things; our siblings, high school teachers, college professors, friends...the list goes on...have taught us as well.

One thing I love about our church is they have fabulous outreach events! Last night we had our annual fishing event that is put on by our Outdoor Club. At this event they feed us dinner (ironically, not fish), have an ice cream truck, and poles and bait are available for fishing in our church pond! It is open to anyone in the community. Many people bring their adult kids who have church homes elsewhere, their grandkids, or, in my case, their parents who enjoy watching their kids and grandkids grow in life and faith!

Here are a few pics from last night.

Teaching Peter not to reel in too quickly and let the fish come to him!

Patience is important but in the 45 minutes we fished and shared our pole Peter caught 4 fish!

Ashley came along (my parents and sister Lori were there too). Ashley with her first fish!

Aaron chowin' down on the hot dog and fries!

Abigail trying to eat! Next year she'll be able to see what she is eating!

I'm happy our church isn't just feeding people. I'm glad they are teaching and equipping the congregation with valuable skills that will advance the Kingdom of God!

All for His Glory!
