A couple weeks ago the guys in the family went out to tap the trees. For as long as I can remember my grandfather, father, uncle and cousins have been collecting sap and boiling it into maple syrup. Occasionally one of us women will go along but there isn't a lot of room on the wagon.
Every year I enjoy the smell that comes from this small barn.
Here is my grandpa, busy at work, boiling!
Every time we visit the barn we get a sampling of fresh off the boiler syrup. I have enjoyed this for years and now my children are reaping the benefit of this family tradition! Peter is old enough to even go out on the tractor and wagon to collect the sap!
With warmer temps coming up this weekend, and we'll be hitting 70 next Wednesday, this season is almost done. Which only means one thing...maple syrup on ice cream for a summer treat!
