Adventures in Gardening: A Summer Series

Beyond excited to show you my awesome new design for this Summer Series! Do you like it? It didn't take me long (thanks to picmonkey.com) and I like how simple yet cheery it is! Every Friday you will know what the post is about if you see this banner!

On to the Gardening!

I was at a loss of what to use so I asked my hubby for help. He has tons of scrap wood, and really nice wood, sitting around after making our kids playground (which will never be completely finished in his eyes :: ahhh...the mind of an innovator!) but I didn't just want to take anything because it seems he always has a purpose for any wood laying around!
After picking out the wood I was going to use and almost starting the project he came around the corner to say, "Hey, why don't you use this?" And, wha-la, the vision for the trellis was clear!! In his hand he had our old screen door with wooden frame!

After removing the screen and taking off the hardware I started to drill holes for the rope. I ended up using a cotton clothesline that I had laying around. I drilled the holes 3 inches apart on all sides. I didn't want it to go all the way to the end, since my cukes only cover 3/4 of the door frame. Hubby attached another piece of wood for the roping at the end. I used 100' of clothesline and didn't quite finish (as you can see at the top). But it'll work this year (maybe :: hopefully)! Looks pretty nice, eh? I love that it's worn looking and not manufactured looking!

Thanks to Hubby BIG TIME on this job! I really wanted to do this completely on my own, but I just couldn't. His ideas were, I admit, better than mine. We fought a couple, few times over how to put it together. And I'm so thankful he was there to tighten the ropes VERY WELL!! So, what do you think?

I also mentioned I would talk about my watering system but I will hold off on that until next week!

How to Better for next year: Span the entire length of the door frame.

I love that trellis! I saw it today and thought it looked great but I didn't know you made it from your old screen door. I'm impressed! :)
