Peter and SM

Wow! What amazing strides Peter has taken this year! He has been gettin' his brave on!

His teacher is AMAZING! I credit her tenacity in helping Peter overcome some of his anxieties. Her ability to make him active in the classroom without a voice, and then push him in such a caring way so that he finds success is...well...AMAZING!

In the beginning of the year she made it very clear to everyone that would ask why Peter doesn't talk that it is 'just something he is working on'; just like some kids work on spelling, and some kids need help with reading, and others need to learn how to raise their hand, etc., etc. Peter is working on finding his voice. She would address it very matter of fact, never secretly from Peter, and she made him feel comfortable and like there wasn't anything wrong with the fact that he had to work on this!

So, where is Peter in this walk right now?

-- He is whispering to his teacher about everything!
-- He has whispered 'Hi' to almost all the kids in his class (who then went back to the teacher ecstatic that Peter talked to them)
-- He is whisper reading to two parent volunteers and to at least one other child in the class.
-- He was invited by a group of girls to play at recess and they sat and asked him questions all recess long! (Which he whisper answered)
-- He is talking with cashiers and doctors and anyone he feels he wants to. We let him take the lead on this one! This also includes 2 babysitters that he just met!
-- He has yet to speak with his Sunday School teachers. We are working on getting him to mouth things to them. (Which was one of the steps in school that led to whispering).

This kid continues to amaze me! Next week he'll be turning 7 and I can't wait to see what God has in store for his next year of life!

Thanks for all your prayers! They're working!!
